In recent years a skin rejuvenation and firming technique has become established that gives very satisfying results. The treatment causes only minimal discomfort and usually leaves no injection marks.
The treatment, approved by the US FDA, consists of placing very fine absorbable polydioxanone (PDO) threads under the skin, which stimulate the tissues to produce collagen, hyaluronic acid and elastin. The threads dissolve naturally in about six to eight months, but histological studies show that the biostimulating effect lasts up to a year. Patients can apply make-up immediately after treatment.
The result is a lifting effect on the face and firmer skin in areas affected by laxity, with renewed vitality and elasticity. Fine wrinkles, nasolabial folds and slight sagging improve for 10–12 months. PDO is a material used in surgery for many years: it is safe, reliable, non-toxic and non-pyrogenic. Threads can be combined with fillers, biorevitalisation and botulinum toxin for the best possible result.
