Breast lift with implants

For many patients, small breasts and sagging breasts go together. The most common situation is probably a woman who has had and breastfed several children: after the temporary increase in breast volume, which damages the supporting ligaments, the breasts can be left empty and sagging.

In these cases, simply placing implants with a breast augmentation would leave the implant too high in relation to the sagging breast, with an unacceptable result. A breast lift alone, on the other hand, would leave the breast insufficiently filled, as there is often little breast tissue. The two procedures therefore need to be combined in a breast lift with implants, which is more demanding than either operation performed alone.

This is because the two procedures have opposite aims. Breast augmentation increases the volume of the breast and therefore the skin surface that must adapt to it; mastopexy reduces the skin surface to lift the breast and nipple. The combined operation must lift the breast by reducing the skin envelope while leaving enough skin to accommodate the new volume of the implant. It is also important to preserve the blood supply to the nipple, keep scars to a minimum and achieve a pleasing, long-lasting result, all in the same operation. This is why surgeons consider augmentation mastopexy the most demanding breast procedure.
