Blepharoplasty
Blepharoplasty is the procedure that allows rejuvenating the appearance of the eyes by acting on the eyelids.
It is certainly one of the most frequently performed procedures in cosmetic surgery.
Regarding the eyelids, aging typically involves an excess of skin on the upper eyelid and drooping of the eyebrows. In the lower eyelid, the most common visible alteration is usually related to fat bags, although an excess of skin is almost always present as well.
Blepharoplasty should be performed by experienced surgeons to achieve quality results. The procedure is strictly outpatient and can be done under local anesthesia, possibly combined with mild sedation. It involves removing the excess skin from the upper eyelids, often preceded by a brow lift in certain cases, and correcting the fat bags and excess skin on the lower eyelids.
In recent years, the technique of removing fat bags through an incision made inside the lower eyelid, known as the transconjunctival approach, has become increasingly popular. This "magical" procedure allows the removal of bags without any visible scars and is definitely preferred in younger individuals.
When excess skin also needs to be removed, the technique of "pinch blepharoplasty" is used, which allows excellent results with minimal risk. In cases of marked laxity of the lower eyelid, the classic technique with an incision made about two millimeters below the eyelashes can always be employed.
After the initial consultation, Dr. Brunelli will recommend the most suitable technique for your specific case. In recent years, the philosophy of this procedure has changed thanks to a critical evaluation of the results of previous surgeries, becoming increasingly conservative. It has been observed that an excessively hollowed eye has an aged appearance. Therefore, the aim is to remove the right amount of fat and skin without overdoing it.
Combining blepharoplasty with other facial rejuvenation techniques, such as botulinum toxin injections, skin restructuring, CO2 laser, or chemical peeling, is often recommended to improve even the small periorbital wrinkles commonly known as "crow's feet," which blepharoplasty alone cannot eliminate.
