MACS lift

MACS-Lift

Facial lifting techniques are among the most studied in cosmetic surgery. Over the years, numerous different techniques have been proposed, all aimed at facial rejuvenation, but varying in invasiveness and recovery times. Skin-only lifts, lifts with underlying muscle repositioning or plication, and even deeper techniques targeting the periosteum have been proposed.

In recent years, both in cosmetic surgery and aesthetic medicine, patients increasingly request minimally invasive techniques with faster recovery times to be able to return to social life as quickly as possible.

The MACS lift is a technique devised by Belgian colleagues (actually, it is the evolution of previously described techniques), whose name is an acronym for Minimal Access Cranial Suspension lift, referring to a lifting procedure with a short scar and cranial suspension.

This procedure represents a good compromise between superficial and deep techniques and allows for highly satisfying results in the majority of patients.

It involves liposuction of the neck at the beginning of the procedure, which refines the outcome and allows for better tissue upward sliding. Subsequently, incisions are made, usually limited to the front of the ear, limited dissection in the targeted area, elevation of the facial musculature using sutures, placement of two small drains, closure, and dressing.

It can also be performed under local anesthesia associated with good sedation. Patients can return home a few hours after the surgery, although it is advisable for them to stay overnight in the clinic to monitor any immediate postoperative issues.

Given the limited dissection involved, this procedure is also feasible for smokers, for whom most other surgical techniques are contraindicated. Naturally, whenever possible, it is always better to quit smoking at least 10 days before and 10 days after the procedure.

Return to social activities is expected in approximately 15 days when most of the surgical signs will have disappeared.
